Karina Villeda - Vice President

What progress have you made on your Cabinet duties as outlined in the LeadMN bylaws?

I have been actively involved in advocating for LeadMN's legislative goals and conducting extensive outreach to promote our mission. This has included testifying at the Capitol and engaging in conversations with numerous legislators to raise awareness about the issues faced by students and the impact of LeadMN's work. Additionally, I have been providing support to students by assisting them in achieving their senate goals and helping them out with their personal stories. I have been overall dedicated to amplifying the voices of students and hope to continue to advocate for their rights and well-being.

What have you done or what is your plan to get students more involved with LeadMN?

My recent efforts have been focused on petition work, and I have been actively engaging with schools to spread awareness about LeadMN and our mission. As part of this effort, I have been sharing information about the scholarships we offer and the impactful work we have achieved. Through my visits to schools, I have been able to encourage more individuals to join our cause and support our efforts to make a positive impact on the lives of students. It is gratifying to see the impact and hope to get more petitions signed and inform people of their power.

Outline your biggest achievement this month?

This month, I am proud to have accomplished a significant feat by encouraging a school that previously had limited involvement with LeadMN to participate in our upcoming April GA. It is nice to see that they are now eager to know more about how they can support our cause and contribute to our efforts in the future. They have reached out to me for guidance on how they can help and what they can expect next year so that they can become more involved. This achievement has not only expanded our reach but has also strengthened our community by bringing in new voices and perspectives. I look forward to seeing their active participation and continued support.

What progress have you made on your GC or PC duties as outlined in the LeadMN bylaws?

I have made several nominations for LeadMN recognition, and also testified at the capitol in person this month. The email regarding free college scholarship and request for letters to our representatives has been forwarded along to student senators and to other members of the student body. Many students were curious to hear about my experience tesififying at the capitol with LeadMN, and I was also able to connect with them about offering their testimonies in support of free college.

What have you done or what is your plan to get students more involved with LeadMN?

I have presented in student senate and encouraged members to spread the word to the student body about the following: LeadMN scholarships, the upcoming Spring General Assembly, and also the necessity to send letters to our representatives in support of free college. This coming week, the DCTC student senate will be led in a LeadMN trainng with Bridget.

What is happening on the campuses in your region?
